Under strict rules and limited time and resources, we are challenged to build industrial-sized robots to play a difficult field game in an alliance with other teams, while also fundraising to meet their goals, designing a team “brand,” and advancing respect and appreciation for STEM within the local community.
Every January, FIRST releases a new challenge. The team usually has 8 weeks until our first competition, during which we must:
brainstorm (learning from our experiences from previous years)
prototype
design (using Industrial CAD software such as SOLIDWORKS)
manufacture (with industrial machinery such as a CNC Router, laser cutter, and lathe)
assemble
program (using the programming language C++, the standard for applications such as robots)
tune (a variety of motors, sensors, etc.)
and train our drivers on our robot.
